Mandatory Day Off: June 1, 2025

Please note that June 1, 2025, will be a mandatory day off.

On this day, for the first time, Mexico will hold ordinary federal elections to directly elect Ministers, Magistrates, and Federal Judges.

The legal basis for this mandatory day off is found in Article 96 of the Political Constitution and Article 74, Section IX of the Federal Labor Law.

For your reference, the relevant legal provisions are as follows:

Political Constitution
Article 96. “The Ministers of the Supreme Court of Justice, Magistrates of the Superior Chamber and the Regional Chambers of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation, Magistrates of the Judicial Disciplinary Tribunal, Circuit Magistrates, and District Judges shall be elected freely, directly, and secretly by the citizens on the day of the ordinary federal elections of the corresponding year, according to the following procedure…”.

Federal Labor Law
Article 74. “The following are mandatory days of rest:

IX. The one determined by federal and local electoral laws in the case of ordinary elections, to carry out the electoral day…”.
