Mexico Approves The TPP

Dear Clients and Friends,

On May 23, 2018, the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs published in the Federal Official Gazette the approval of the following agreements, which the Mexican Federal Government has been negotiating concurrently with the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA):

1. Trans Pacific Partnership Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement (commonly known as TPP).

2. Parallel Agreement to the TPP related to Commercial Aspects regarding Textile Merchandise and Clothing under the Scarce Supply List and Baby Clothing of Synthetic Fabrics entered between Mexico and Vietnam.

3. Parallel Agreement to the TPP for the Incorporation of the Monitoring Program regarding Textile and Clothing Corporations Registered in Vietnam for the Exchange of Information and Assist with Risk Management in the Identification and Attendance of Customs Infractions Related with the Textile Industry entered between Mexico and Vietnam.

4. Parallel Agreement to the TPP that partially terminates the Agreement between Mexico and Australia for the Reciprocal Promotion and Protection of Investment and its Protocol.

5. Parallel Agreement to the TPP regarding the Rules of Origin for Products of Certain Vehicles entered between Mexico and Malaysia.

The approval of these Agreements does not provide a specific date to be effective since they first have to be approved by at least 6 other countries, amongst other requirements.
