Dear clients and friends:
This alert outlines one of the key obligations for expatriates in Mexico: notifying the National Institute of Migration of any changes in their marital status, nationality, address, or employer.
This notification must be made within ninety days following the occurrence of such change.
The above is based on and supported by the following articles of the Migration Law:
-Article 167 of the Regulations of the Migration Law:
“Temporary and permanent foreign residents are required to notify the Institute within the ninety calendar days of any changes in marital status, nationality, address, or employer. To comply, they must submit a request for the corresponding procedure…”
– Article 158 of the Migration Law:
“A fine from twenty to one hundred times the general minimum wage in effect in Mexico City will be imposed on temporary and permanent residents who fail to inform the Institute of a change in their marital status, address, name, nationality, or employer, or who do so belatedly.”
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions regarding this obligation.
