Legal changes approved in recent years

  • The table of occupational diseases has been updated.

  • Vacation days have increased from 6, 8, 10, and 12 to 12, 14, 16, and 18.

  • Illegal Outsourcing based on personnel supply has been eliminated.

  • Labor rights of domestic workers have been recognized.

  • Various provisions have been added for field workers, regarding employment contracts, fines and social security.

  • A specific penalty has been added for companies not registered with FONACOT.

Pending initiatives:

  • Chair Law”: Guarantees the right to rest during the workday, specifically the right to sit down. (Pending publication in the Official Gazette.))

  • Reduction of the workweek.

Seeks to reduce weekly hours from 48 to 40 by Recognizing two days of rest for every five days of work.

  • 30-day Christmas bonus (Aguinaldo)

Proposes increasing the Christmas bonus from 15 to 30 days.

  • Seniority bonus. Aims to increase the bonus from 12 to 15 days per year worked and eliminate the cap equivalent to twice the general minimum wage.

  • Extension of paternity leave

Men are currently entitled to only five days off when they become fathers. This proposal aims to extend paternity leave to 20 days. The extension would apply not only to births but also to adoptions.

  • Hiring quotas

Seeks to prevent age and disability discrimination in the labor market.

  • Gender equal pay

Ensure wage equality between men and women.
